Description

Story: Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens

Character: Peter Pan

Character Name: Peter Pan

Kingdom: Never

Age: 11. Forever.

Height: 4'4"

Personality: Peter is cocky, boastful, proud, selfish, flighty, and imaginative. He enjoys adventure, hates to be bored, loves talking about himself or hearing other people talk about him, and will never back down from a challenge (which he hates to lose.)

He hates to be wrong, and if he doesn't know the answer to something he will make up one on the spot that he thinks sounds good. He is self absorbed, hot headed and prone to jumping to conclusions about other people's feelings, or ignoring them entirely.

He is also courageous, and will stand up for his friends and never leaves them in a tight spot (for long anyway.) He has a strong sense of justice, and if he sees someone in danger he won't hesitate in trying to help them, or in stopping "villains" from completing nefarious schemes. A natural leader (at least he believes himself to be, and if he believes it everyone should) he will take charge of any situation and attempt to make it go his way.

History:

Peter was born human, though like most infants he was just a little bit bird at the start.

Unlike most children, Peter stayed that way.

After hearing his parents talking about him becoming a grown up and deciding that being one would be a bore, Peter flew the coop quite literally, jumping out his window at the young age of seven days old and flying back to where the spirits of children are created and sent on their way to human parents.

Unfortunately, by the time he arrived he was just a little bit more boy than bird, and when the great crow in charge of sending children off to be born saw him, he told him that little boys aren't able to fly, which caused Peter to promptly lose his faith in his ability and left him stranded.
He didn't let it get him down however. Though scared and wanting his mother for just a moment, he quickly became brave, making the best of his situation. He adventured around the land, by foot when he needed to and by water sometimes, quickly becoming friends with the birds and the beasts, and eventually the fairy folk.

Though it took some time for him to be accepted, his innocence, ability to play music as beautiful as any bird, and the novelty of being not quite human endeared him to the courts, which eventually placed him in the circles of Queen Mab, the Queen of the Fairy. It was at one of her dances that Peter was granted a incredible gift.

A wish.

Peter thought long and hard about what he would wish for. Having been with the fair folk for some time he knew their ways, and what a rare chance he was being given. Eventually, he decided on a wish.

He wished to see his mother again.

The Queen was unhappy about this, as she had come to see Peter as her own. To let him see his mother again would be the chance that he would never return to her courts, so she tried to disuade him, claiming that wish was not valuable enough to grant.

Peter thought on this, and came up with a solution clever enough that even the Queen had to agree to it. Instead of one big wish, he would get two little ones. The wish to be able to return to his mother (though he could return if he found he didn't like her) and another one he could decide on later.

Reluctantly, Queen Mab granted the first wish, giving him the power of flight so that he could return home, but told him her magic came with limits. She could grant him the ability to go to his home, but she could not open any way into the house for him. The doors or windows would have to be open to him. Peter laughed at that, and said that his mother would always leave the window open for him, and with that took off into the sky.

Being able to fly again was the most thrilling feeling for him, so much so that he almost forgot to return home. When he finally did make it he had decided that he would forget his mother and use his second wish to become a bird again so that he would never again forget how to fly.

However, that changed when he found the window was open open for him, just like he knew it would be, and sleeping in his room, his mother.
She was the most beautiful mother he had ever seen.

Afraid that touching her would wake her, Peter found himself unable to do anything but watch her. The way her hair splayed across the pillow, the way she looked sad even in sleep, and decided that the thing that would make her happy would be to have him as a little boy again. Who could be sad when he was there?

However, he could not become her little boy again that night. There was the business of Mab's second wish to attend to, which was not something to be wasted, and saying goodbye to all the friends he had made.

Promising his sleeping mother that he would return, he flew back to the Court of the Faeries to finish his business with them.

He would never know how long he stayed. Each day was filled with goodbyes to hundreds of creatures and places and activities he had become friends with, sometimes multiple times. Each night was one last feast with the faeries to say goodbye. One last night of music and dodging attempts to make him waste his second wish on something silly. That could have continued on forever, had he not one day dreamed of his mother crying. That very night, during his nightly goodbye feast, he claimed his second wish from Mab.

He wished to return to his mother, forever and always.

Mab warned him that the same rules applied. That he would be granted the ability to fly to his mother, but that he would not be able to enter if the door or windows were barred to him, and once again Peter laughed. His mother would never tire of waiting for him, and took flight.

This time, instead of dawdling, Peter flew straight home. He knew that a hug from him would make his mother happy again. He was looking forward to the look of surprise on her face when he leapt through the window and she knew that he was back.

Except that when he arrived home, the window was closed and barred. Aghast, Peter was stopped in his tracks, thinking that there must have been some trick being played on him. He crept to his room and peered in.

His mother again slept in his room, but in her arms was a new little boy. One to replace him.

Pounding against the window Peter tried to wake her, to let her know that he'd kept his promise and returned, but she could not hear him and Mab's wish did not allow him to force entry. He was barred from his home, and it was with a broken heart he returned to the wild lands of the birds and beasts, believing that his mother no longer loved him and never to see her again.

He has been an adventurer ever since, becoming an even more well known figure in his land, both as a hero and a trickster, and eventually his claimed area became known as "Never" after the fact that its protector has never grown up. He is still well loved in the fairy courts (though he has not seen Queen Mab in some time) and can bee seen playing and dancing with them (when he is not playing with everyone else or attending to the business of the Sidhe.)

TL;DR Peter ran away from home and decided not to grow up, then became sad when his mother didn't just wait for him to return to her.

Skills:

Eternal Youth: Peter never ages. He is eleven and will always be eleven because he decided that was the age he wanted to be. He could be killed, however he can not die of old age since he simply refuses to grow up.

Flight: He is able to fly and loves it. It's a natural state for him and it's more unusual to see him walking than it is to see him floating. At first it was a lingering effect from Queen Mab's incomplete wish that he be able to return to his mother, but he is now so used to flying, and so sure in the fact that he always has and always will be able to fly, that it would take a huge blow to his beliefs to make him lose the ability.

Mimicry: He is able to mimic anything he has heard. From natural sounds to voices, he is able to recreate them perfectly. His favorite one is crowing like a rooster; which he has taken up as his battle cry.

Sword Fighting: Peter is an incredibly skilled sword fighter. Though his small stature limits his weapon choices to light swords and daggers, his speed, agility, and flight allow him to be very creative in his technique.

Other:

-  Peter has a terrible memory, and it is nearly impossible for him to remember facts and figures of any sort. He can't read or write, and the mere mention of arithmetic will cause him to either zone out or groan and act like he's being tortured. He also has a hard time remembering things that happened to him personally more than a year or so ago unless he is regularly reminded of them. He's better with people, but unless he's around them for a while it's easy for him to forget names, leading to almost everyone being tagged with something that he thinks is a much better name than the one they started with.

- He enjoys music, both listening and playing, and can often be found either eavesdropping on people singing or playing his panpipes (an instrument he made and named after himself.) He is really very good, and most of his pieces are spontaneous and emotive.

- He loves hearing stories, (particularly stories about him) and it's pretty much the only way to get him to sit still for any length of time.

- His green skin isn't natural. It's a result of him dying and painting it, just like the markings he paints on himself. They both tend to change pretty regularly and aren't at all consistent, mostly it's just whatever he think looks interesting.

Looks like I'm back doing the group thing! I swore never to get hooked again but here I am.

:iconheart-of-lore: is coming back to life after a long winter and is looking for members. If you are interested in a fairytale group (or in getting pestered by a Peter Pan and a whole slew of other characters) you should give it a look!

If you have any questions about this guy feel free to ask! I'm also happy to RP, though I can be a bit slow. Just drop me a note or a comment and we can figure something out.
